Amino acids

Specifically α-amino acids:

  • A carboxylic acid where the amine group is attached to the α-carbon
  • i.e. the carboxyl group and the amine group is attached to the same carbon

In neutral solution (zwitterionic form):
 amino acid zwitterion
In basic solution
